Manchester United are close to wrapping up their first signing of the summer transfer window, with a fee agreed to sign Mason Mount from Chelsea. Once the deal for the England international has been completed, it is likely that their attentions will turn towards bringing in a new str
That is a position that the club have struggled to fill in recent seasons, although it was thought that they would recruit a long-term solution this off-season. Harry Kane was thought to be their main target, but it seems that United have little interest in entering protracted negotiations with Daniel Levy. The likes of Victor Osimhen and Rasmus Hojlund have also been linked.
However, it is not certain that the club’s budget will stretch far enough to bring in the names mentioned above. Manchester United are under some pressure with FFP due to their heavy spending in recent seasons and will likely have to supplement their spending with some player sales in the coming weeks.
With other positions in the squad also needing to be upgraded, it seems the club are considering some cheaper options in the no. 9 position.
Jornal De Noticias are reporting that Manchester United are considering a move for Porto striker Mehdi Taremi this summer.
The Iran international has been linked with quite a few clubs in recent seasons, although he has yet to leave Portugal. He scored 31 goals and registered 14 assists in all competitions last season.
At 30-years old and having only 12 months remaining on his contract, Taremi would not fetch the same price as some other possible striker targets this summer. In fact, it is said that he could be available for a fee of around €20million.
That would represent excellent value for money for a club such as Manchester United, even if he is unproven in Europe’s top five leagues.
If the club want to strengthen other positions such as goalkeeper and centre back, they may be forced to consider lower priced options up front.
